2017年8月31日，英国自然出版集团正式更新了2017年自然指数（统计时间节点为2016.1.1至 2016.12.31）。中国内地高校共计46所位列全球前500位，国内相关机构还做出了2017年自然指数中国内地高校TOP100。
Nature index 简介：
2014年11月，自然出版集团首次以全新的“加权分值计数法”（WFC，weighted fractional count）指数方式发布了全球“自然指数”。
自然指数的分析是基于前一年各科研机构在Nature系列、Science、Cell等68种自然科学类期刊上发表的研究型论文数量进行计算和统计，它追踪了约6万篇优质科研论文的作者单位信息，涵盖全球2万多家科研机构。68种来源期刊由全球在职科学家所组成的两个独立评选小组选出，分为化学、地球与环境科学、生命科学和物理学四类。这68种期刊只占世界期刊总量的0.6%，但其引用量约占自然科学期刊总引用量的30%。
自然指数既计算论文总数，又计算不同国家和机构在每篇论文上的相对贡献。所以发表在这些期刊上的论文，从一定程度上代表了全世界的高水平研究成果。自然指数创始人戴维·斯温班克斯表示，自然指数为分析高质量科研产出提供了一种免费获取和简明易懂的方法，是对科研界现有衡量标准和评估工具的补充。
我省及医药类大学基本排名情况（2016.1.1-2016.12.31）
在广东省，在全球前500位中首次出现南方科技大学；2017年自然指数中国TOP100名单中首次出现深圳大学。
在医药类大学名单中，我校与首都医科大学均无缘中国前100强。
