The laboratory covers an area of 400 square meters, with more than 70 pieces of main equipment worth more than 5 million RMB. Built under the subject groups of Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicines of Southern Medical University(the former First Military Medical University), the laboratory has formed its own characteristics and advantages in the areas like Chinese medicine’s anti-inflammation, anti-rheumatoid, anti-drug addiction and so on, being one of the main bases for Chinese medicine pharmacological research in Guangdong area.

Research Fields

Pharmacological research on basic theory of prescription

Pharmacological research on Chinese medicine’s anti-inflammation and immunity

Pharmacological research on Chinese medicine’s preventing neurotic disease

Pharmacological research on Chinese medicine’s anti-tumor

Research Characteristic

◆Equal emphasis on fundamental research and application research

◆5 permanent staff, including 3 professors, 1 senior experimentalist and 1 lecturer

◆Since 2006 more than 10 PhDs and 50 postgraduates have been trained from the laboratory

Scientific Research

◆Projects

Since 2006the laboratory has showed its relatively strong competitiveness by undertaking more than 30 scientific projects of various kinds, with an actual scientific research fund more than 7 million RMB, among which 13 are national research projects, accounting 76.5% of the total fund. The major projects include: the State Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation, the overseas cooperation project of the National Natural Science Foundation, the General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation and the Youth Project of the National Natural Science Foundation.

Also, we have won about 10 scientific awards of all kinds, including 2 second prize of China Chinese Medicine Institute of Science and Technology Award, the “Prize for Outstanding Contribution in the Pharmacology of Chinese Medicine” of China Pharmacological Society and the second prize and third prize on science and technology progress of Guangdong Province. Apart from that, we have gained over 10 national patents and issued 3 books.

Open Communication

◆Establish technical collaboration and exchange with relevant laboratories at home and abroad

1Professor Mo Zhixian has been awarded the overseas, Hongkong, and Macau Young Scholars Collaborative Research Fund by National Natural Science Foundation on the research of the action mechanism of using the active ingredients of Chinese herbs in the prevention and control of Amphetamine-type drug abuse and addiction, with his collaboratore being Professor Ken Yung of Hong Kong Baptist University.

Attended national academic conferences and made speeches

The laboratory attaches great importance to technical exchanges and scientific collaboration with other institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions. As a core member of CNPHARM, we had hold the 11th National Academic Exchange Conference on the Pharmacology of Chinese Medicine. Recent years, we have attended national and international academic conferences to conduct academic exchanges for more than 10 times.
