Past days witnessed the fast spreading of the covid-19 epidemic around the world. March 18th, 2020 marked the day when Portugal declared a state of national emergency, which was the first time in Portugal's history. Faculty and students from the School of Health Management of Southern Medical University are deeply concerned about the epidemic in Portugal.
Since 2009, SMU and ISCTE-IUL have been in close cooperation for more than 10 years. The two universities are not only close friends and partners, but also side-by-side comrades in the fight against the epidemic. In a letter to ISCTE-IUL on March 26th, Professor Wang Dong, Dean of the School of Health Management of SMU, expressed deep sympathy and blessings to faculty and students of Business School and INDEG School, and showed sincere gratitude for their care, support and encouragement when China was deeply struck by the epidemic. In addition, SMU will stand with ISCTE-IUL in compassion and solidarity to fight against the epidemic together
Lin Weifang, general manager of China Meheco Guangdong Pharma Co., Ltd. and a doctoral candidate of the SMU-ISCTE-IUL joint doctoral program since 2013, donated a batch of medical materials with a total value of over 600,000 yuan to ISCTE-IUL, as soon as she was informed the shortage of medical materials in Portugal by the International Pragram Office of SMU. The company has donated batches of medical assistance to Hubei province and other regions in severe condition, including N99 medical grade masks that are desperately in need since the outbreak of the epidemic.
On March 27th, SMU held a donation ceremony at the Mountain and River Hall. Representatives from relevant parties attended the ceremony: including Dr. Andre Cordeiro, Consul General of Portugal in Guangzhou, Mr. Mário Ferreira, Vice Consul of Commerce, Ning Xizhou, Vice President of Southern Medical University, Peng Chenghua, Secretary General Alumni Association of Southern Medical University, Qian Yi, Vice Dean of the School of Health Management, Li Aijun, Deputy Secretary of the School of Health Management, Xu Ruimin, Director of the International Program Office, Lin Weifang, the donor and general manager of China Meheco Guangdong Pharma Co., Ltd. and other relevant personnel.
Dr. Andre Cordeiro, on behalf of Portugal and ISCTE-IUL expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the generous donation on the ceremony Epidemic knows no border, he stated that, and Portugal is under an extremely difficult and critical outbreak period. There is no doubt that the donation is of great significance to the Portuguese people in a state of severe epidemic prevention. Portuguese government, in the procurement of medical materials, is thankful for the intensive support and assistance from Doctor of Management in Health Policy and Management Program joint by SMU and ISCTE-IUL and its candidates. The friendly cooperation between SMU and ISCTE-IUL has not only contributed to the development of the two countries in the field of health management education, but also promoted the friendship between the two countries. He also sincerely hoped that the cooperation between SMU and ISCTE-IUL will become more and more successful in the future!
The donation of Lin Weifang will be sent to Lisbon with other epidemic prevention and control materials on a special flight this weekend. “At the critical moment in the global fight against the coronavirus epidemic, our motherland and other countries around the world help each other to overcome the difficulties. We share the same destiny and fortune. I am honored, on behalf of my company, China Meheco Guangdong Pharma Co., Ltd., to donate a batch of medical materials to ISCTE-IUL which is my school in Portugal, in my school in China, SMU, to support the battle against the epidemic in Portugal. With Chinese power, Chinese speed and Chinese responsibility, China has preliminarily controlled the epidemic by effective and professional measures in the past two months. Though China is still striving to fight the epidemic, we adhere to build a community of shared future for mankind and share anti-epidemic materials and successful experiences to countries around the world.
