Foreword
The medical education system and health care system of China are entirely different from those in developed western countries, and in exactly what ways are they different? The medical technology of developed western countries and regions is in a leading position internationally, and in what ways is ours inferior? Some of their medical reforms are successful, some are not, and what can we learn from their experience?
The Program is specially designed for Chinese young students aspiring to medical science or medicine and health management. It makes scientific, efficient and comprehensive arrangements for them to go to developed western countries and regions for studies and research, including tours to medical research institutions, medical schools of well-known universities, medical laboratories, medical institutions, museums of medical science and pharmaceutical companies. It also includes cultural exchanges with medical education experts, medicine and health management experts, medical researchers, doctors and medical students, which may give Chinese students a better understanding of overseas medical education systems, health care systems, medical institutions and medical research projects, so that they may have a clearer goal in their future studies and and development. Besides, students may have opportunities to visit the world’s top universities and famous scenic spots.

2. About Southern Medical University
Southern Medical University was founded in 1951, and was named the First Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army at that time. In 1979, it was designated as one of the key universities in China. Since the August of 2004, when it got its current name, it has been striving toward a “multi-disciplinary medical university”. Currently, it houses a large number of state-level key disciplines, featuring tropical medicine, biological high-technology, an combination of medical science and engineering and of Chinese and western medicines, while focusing on medical science. The University has a strong teaching faculty, a whole range of infrastructure, and a well computerized teaching system. Being home to six of China’s best hospitals, it is no lacking in resources for teaching practice and offers students considerable employment opportunities. 3. Program Description
The Program by Southern Medical University , which is to be started in the summer of 2012, is intended to enrich the overseas practice experience of Chinese young students aspiring to medical science or medicine and health management, and consequently help open their eyes to the world.
Headed by young teachers from medical universities and colleges, students will be organized into teams for tours abroad to have a comprehensive study of the medical and health systems of developed western countries and regions. Besides completing research tasks under the help of their teachers, they will have opportunities to exchange with foreign medical experts and students. The Program, covering the medical education systems, health care systems, medical institutions and medical research projects, will help broaden the horizon of Chinese students, so that they may have a clearer goal in their future studies and development.
The Program is not merely for sightseeing’s sake. All students have to work together, under the guidance of their teachers, in the whole process of the research and studies, including the preparation of relevant materials, group discussion, summary writing, and the submission of reports. And students from Southern Medical University after passing the final examination will receive credits of innovation from the University in their academic records.

5. The Expenses are comprised of:
1) the security money of registration, which includes the visa appointment fee, visa fee, costs of international invitations, service charges for visa application, training costs before the visa interview, postal costs of the visa, ticket reservation fee and booking fee of experts and research activities, but does not include the costs entailed in obtaining passports or Hong Kong / Macau pass permits.
