About Us

The Southern Medical University (SMU as it is known today) was first established in 1951 as The First Military Medical University under the administration of Northeast Military Area. In 1979 it was gazetted as one of the key national universities of China. It then underwent a name change to that of the Southern Medical University in 2004, when it was handed over to the Guangdong government and became a non-military university in line with a new set of policies issued by the State Council and the Central Military Committee of the PLA. In the same year, it was authorized to be one of just eight prestigious universities nationally to initiate a trial on the 8-year medical education program. It has always sought excellence as its mission statement in the evaluation and training of the young doctors to server China and its people with distinction.

 

The university has two campuses, namely main campus and Shunde campus, which contains 17 schools. Besides, SMU owns 6 affiliated hospitals and 47 non- affiliated hospitals.

 

SMU now has 10 doctorate authorization First-Level Discipline and 6 post-doctoral research stations (Clinical Medicine Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Biology, Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine, Pharmacy). Moreover, SMU is also home to 1 National Key Laboratory, 1 National Clinical Medicine Research Center and 1 National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talents Cultivation. SMU also offers students a dynamic experience. Here you will find a broad range of leading disciplines including 3 national key disciplines, 2 national key discipline candidates, 16 National Key Clinical Specialty and national key discipline of TCM.

 

Entry Requirements

1.  Candidates should be a doctor degree holder and have their first author articles published in SCI Q2 or above. For candidates of social science, they should have their first author articles published in SSCI.

2.  Candidates who have no first author articles in SCI, should be under 35 years old and get the doctor degree within 1 year.  In addition to this, candidates will participate in a face to face interview including presentation and Q&A, during which five post-doctoral supervisors will assess candidates’ ability and potential. Candidates will only be enrolled as they pass the interview.

 

Benefits

1.       The post-doctoral position is for a duration of 2 years and SMU offers 140,000 yuan per year. Furthermore, post-doctoral supervisors may offer extra allowance based on candidates’ performance.

2.       Post doctors can enjoy Performance Related Payment of Southern Medical University and free medical service provided by the university. .

3.       The expenses of Post doctors’ undertaking supervisors’ project will be covered by supervisors.

 

We are currently seeking exceptional applicants, for candidates who obtain their doctor degree from the top 200 universities in The Times (universities in China are excluded) within 2 years and are under the age of 35 can get a basic salary 300,000 yuan per year and the benefits listed above as well.
