南方医科大学-美国国际医学教育与研究促进基金会中国区域中心(SMU-FAIMER Regional Institute,以下简称SMU-FRI)于2015年11月2日正式挂牌成立,这是我校进一步加强国际化办学、拓展医学教育协同创新的一项新举措,FAIMER也在其官方网站上进行了相关报道。
SMU-FRI立足我校,积极引进国际知名医学教育资源,依托我校高水平大学建设及教育改革发展成果,协同校内外有关优秀师资力量,致力于开展国际化的师资培养及医学教育研究实践工作。
经过前期准备工作,2016年度 SMU-FRI项目申报工作现已正式开始,有关事项通知如下:
一、范围及名额:面向全国及东南亚地区高等医学院校、医学教育研究机构、卫生健康组织机构等,2016年度拟评选接收20名项目获得者(SMU-FAIMERFellows)。
二、对象:卫生健康事业工作人员,包括教师、医师、医学教育或卫生事业管理人员等。一般要求申请者具有较丰富的医药卫生教育教学实践经验、热心卫生健康事业、具有良好的英语水平。
三、项目开展:整体项目时间为两年,具体分为四个阶段,2016年度计划安排如下:
第一阶段:2016年11月8日----2016年11月13日,
集中学习。地点:南方医科大学;
第二阶段:2016年11月14日---2017年11月12日,
各自单位开展课题研究工作、基于网络的学习及专题讨论;
第三阶段:2017年11月13日----2017年11月18日,
集中学习。地点:南方医科大学;
第四阶段:2017年11月19日----2018年10月
各自单位开展课题研究工作、基于网络的学习及专题讨论。
四、项目内容及方式:
(一)项目内容:主要包括课程学习及课题研究。
课程学习内容主要包括:医学教育教学基本知识和技能,包括课程设置、课程发展、教学方法、认证与评估以及教育研究等;此外,还包括领导力建设、改革管理、团队协作等管理技能方面的内容。
课题研究工作主要是项目人员结合自身工作实际,根据项目申报时确定的一个医学教育研究课题,与指导教师、项目顾问以及其它有关项目人员协同开展课题研究工作。
(二)方式:以美国专家领衔的教师团队,采取以2-4名教师组成的教师组的方式开展教学工作;课程学习均为小组学习、互动讨论、案例分析和情景演练等方式。
全英文开展项目工作,包括项目申请、集中课程学习、在线学习、课题研究报告及结业汇报等。
五、结业:课程学习通过评估、并完成课题研究结题汇报者,予以颁发美国FAIMER的结业证书;同时,吸收进入FAIMER 组织全球医学教育人才库,享用全球医学教育有关信息资源与协作支持。
结业时,根据学习情况及个人意愿,项目成员可申请赴美国费城FAIMER总部进行结业汇报。
六、费用:南方医科大学为SMU-FRI设立专项经费,对项目成员给予一定的经费支持,提供学费、资料费及集中学习期间的餐费;其它有关费用由项目成员自行承担(东南亚地区项目成员视具体情况可申请一定的减免)。

The SMU-FAIMERRegional Institute (SMU-FRI) based at Southern Medical University (SMU),Guangzhou, China, which is the eighth FAIMER Regional Institute, was launchedofficially in November 2nd 2015. This is a significant step for SMUto develop internationaleducation and improve medical education collaboration. Below you may find thenews posted on FAIMER website.
SMU-FAIMER Regional Institute, introduced internationalmedical education resources and cooperated with famous faculty members, willwork effectively to enhance health professions education by developingeducation methods, scholarship and leadership skills.
Application to the 2016 SMU-FAIMER Regional Institute (SMU-FRI) opens onMarch 15th 2016, Please see details below:
1、Applicants from Southeast Asia and South China medicalinstitutions are welcome to apply. Approximately20 fellowships are offered this year.
2、Application requirement: Faculty from all healthprofessions are welcome, especially with experiences in medical education; Competencein written and spoken English.
3、The schedule for the 2016 fellowship cycle is:
November 8-13, 2016 | Session 1 (residential session at SMU) |

November 2016 – October, 2018 | Session 4 (distance learning session) |
The SMU-FAIMER Regional Institute fellowshipis a two-year program. It consists of two residential sessions, which takeplace at Southern Medical University (SMU), Guangzhou, and two 11-monthdistance learning sessions, one following the first residential session and onefollowing the second residential session. The first and second residentialsessions consist of seven days of highly interactive educational activities.Curriculum topics focus on medical knowledge and teaching skills, which includecurriculum plan, curriculum development, teaching methods, certification andevaluation, as well as educational research. In addition, it also includes theleadership construction, reform and management, teamwork, and other managementskills.
The distance learning sessions focus on thementoring of Fellows, network building, and the exchange of ideas throughparticipation in an internet discussion group. During the distance learningsessions, Fellows also implement an education innovation project at their homeinstitution. A summary of the project and results are presented during thesecond residential session.
4、The SMU-FRI faculty team, which is led by American experts and consistedof 2-4 faculty members, will work together to guide group work, discussion,case study, and scenario exercise. Instruction language is English.
5、Candidates earn a Certificate in Health ProfessionsEducation after successfully presented the project report and past the program evaluation,become outstanding local resources for improving health professions education. Aftergraduating from the two-year program, selected fellows will progress to the InternationalFellowship in Medical Education (IFME) program to pursue advanced degrees inhealth professions education at institutions worldwide. Candidates may alsochoose to present the project report in Philadelphia, US.
6、Limited funding is available to support the Fellows’course fee, course materials, and meals. However, Fellows (or their institutions) are responsible for the travelexpenses and accommodation during the residential sessions. Similarly the costsinvolved in carrying out the project are also not covered by SMU-FRI.Applicants from Southeast Asia may apply for financial aid to coverinternational travel costs and accommodation.
